Psychological trauma or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a rational emotional response to distressing experiences or a series of events such as: – violent, sexual, emotional or domestic abuse, an accident, natural disaster, war and childhood trauma, to name but a few.
Emotional difficulties may occur afterwards which can be distressing, possibly resulting in a sense of re-living the trauma, both mentally and physically, which in turn can produce uncomfortable and painful feelings.
You may experience upsetting memories, images, flashbacks, thoughts and feelings, and nightmares may be frequent.
There is no right or wrong way to react to a trauma and we all respond differently.
Counselling can help you to make sense of your experiences. Talking about trauma can certainly feel an upsetting thing to do but eventually it allows us to re-arrange our thoughts and feelings in a way that enables us to move forward to live a more fulfilling life.
It is important to feel that you can take your time and go at your own pace with a therapist, to explore your distress. This sensitive process needs to be appropriately paced.

Get In Touch
I appreciate that making initial contact can be difficult. After an informal telephone conversation, I would suggest we arrange an initial session for us both to assess if we are able and willing to work together.
Due to the nature of my work, you may find that your call goes to my voicemail. I know this can be off-putting but please don’t be shy and leave me a message. I will endeavour to contact you at the first opportunity, usually on the same day.
